The University of Malta archives housed within the Department of Special Collections of the University Library bring together
a wealth of material on the vicissitudes of our Alma Mater since its re-foundation under Sir Alexander John Ball in 1800. Council
deliberations, faculty board meetings, letter books, and an exciting miscellany of papers constitute a veritable font of information for a
history of our dear University and of its very active participation in the socio-political fabric of the Maltese Islands during British colonial
administration.Within this rich cumulus of primary source material the five Acta Academiae Melitensis registers occupy pride of
place. Spanning the period 1800-1945 these volumes not only give first hand insights into the varied annals of Malta’s venerable
academic institution but they also constitute the only extant source for a roll of honour of its alumni through the 19th and early 20th
century. The digitization of these volumes and their presentation as an electronic facsimile not only guarantees the preservation of the
fragile originals for posterity, but also ensures their unlimited virtual accessibility for scholars. This CD can be purchased from
the University Library at the University of Malta in Msida. |
